ClassTools is a site that has been around for a few years, helping teachers create free games, quizzes and activities quickly and easily. Best of all, the site is free to use and does not require you to sign up!
Recently, ClassTools has added Image Annotator, an image labeling tool. By going to the website, you can upload an image file from your computer. Once the image uploads, you'll be able to click at any spot on the picture to drop a marker (it will look like a red dot). You can then add a title, description, and (optional) URL web address to the marker. When someone clicks on the marker, the information that you typed in will be displayed.
After you finishing adding all of your markers and information, click the "Embed" button to share the image. The first option, "URL Link / Embed Code" will give you a URL website address that you can share with your students through your LMS (or could be shared with you from a student). Alternatively, the second option of a QR Code would generate a QR code that students could scan with their iPad that would take them immediately to the image.
This tool can be used with just about any image and by a teacher or a student. It could be used to label a map, a diagram of a cell, or just to add additional information to a picture.
