We're almost there...we're almost done another school year. To be completely honest, I've been very impressed with the ways things have gone this year and how our teachers and students have embraced new technologies. I think its safe to say that we all learned some things along the way!
For us, this year was supposed to be a "Year of Discovery," but I've seen and heard about a lot of great things going on in classrooms throughout my school that went far beyond discovery. Everyone is learning at their own pace but is also willing to try new things.
I collaborated with a teacher to develop some ideas about classroom management and expectations for students that we thought would be helpful to incorporate into individual class expectations for the Fall. These go beyond the handbook rules for students, and are suggestions that you can include, omit, or modify based on the needs of your particular class.
We implemented this policy in one classroom midway through the year and called it Guidelines for iPad Use. In it, the teacher clearly stated what he expected of students in his class when using their iPad. He told me that he had a small handful of students try to see what they could get away with (imagine that!), but after catching them and following through with the consequences outlined in the Guidelines, he hasn't had much of an issue since.
